Portfolio 3.3
HULME FOOD PAVILION
Project Summary

My project was designing a food centre so through the design jam my idea was to open a connection both visually and spatially between walkways around the site. The idea aims is to give a new use to Spyder park in order to promote integration of “culture” and “age” in Hulme, by making a new “cultural food pavilion”. The concept is let the walkways pass between architecture, allow it to take over the site and to maintain the idea of the park at the same time. The architecture is not imposed on the site, but the site is imposed on the architecture.
I decided my project was going to be a cultural food pavilion, and I gave it a title “Designing for Diversity’. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognising our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.
